SILVERFISH
Silverfish may be found anywhere in your home or office, because of their wide variety of food choices. They feed on
a wide variety of proteins and carbohydrates. That means they may feed on many foods in your pantry or kitchen, but they will also feed on fibers, linen, glue, paste, paper and
dead insects. You can see silverfish may be found in any room of your structure, since these food sources exist everywhere.Silverfish are found all over the World and look much the
same as the Firebrat. They are silver in color and wiggle or swing their tail as the move. The adult is about 1/2 inch long. They prefer
temperatures in the 70 to 85 degree range. They prefer moist situations while the firebrat may not need as much moisture. They lay eggs where they are
protected and they hatch in about 20 to 35 days. This time may vary due to temperatures and humidity. Control of Silverfish and Firebrats: Treatment consists of liquid
insecticides being applied inside the structure, in areas these insects may frequent, plus treating around all sinks and moisture sources. Special attention
must be given to areas such as closets, behind dresser drawers and bookshelves. Insecticide dust may be used in voids, around appliances, dishwashers and attic spaces. |
