EARWIGS

Earwig is a pest that is common in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. They were not found often in the 1950' and 60's, but since then, earwigs have become a common pest. Since people have found that they do not sting, they are tolerated better inside structures. They prefer to live outdoors, but they wander inside and forget how to get back out. They are easily recognized by their pinchers or forceps on the back of their abdomen. They feed on most anything -  including plant material, decay, dead animal matter, and some species are predators.

Control: Treatment is the same as with most occasional invaders. Treat around baseboards, windows, and use insecticide dusts around appliances and plumbing areas inside. Treat around the outside perimeter, weep holes and entry areas. Earwigs are one of the nine pests we control on our Quarterly Pest Control Program. Call (817) 8343121 and schedule an appointment today.

Homeowner Control: We offer these pests good harborage by keeping shrub beds moist an filled with mulch, bark and ground cover. Treating these areas with appropriate granules or insecticide sprays is helpful. Keep grass trimmed away from the foundation and seal or caulk entry areas. Keep firewood, and rubbish away from the structure.
