CARPET BEETLES Carpet Beetles are a
very common insect in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. There are many species throughout the World. Carpet Beetles eat most everything that is made from animal hair or fur. They were more of a problem when wool
carpets were prominent, but do not feed on the non animal synthetic fibers. Some carpets have mixtures of synthetic and animal fiber which carpet beetles will attack. The larvae feed on wool sweaters, coats,
carpets, upholstered furniture museum specimens and other commodities. The adults feed on pollen and nectar. They are easily found by looking for larvae in clothing and pupa cases and on walls or ceilings of
closets and rooms. Control: Treatment of carpets, closets, clothe storage areas and areas these insects may be found, with liquid or aerosol products. Sometimes it is necessary to use a
fog or space spray to aid in elimination of these pest. Call our office at (817) 834-3121 and schedule a treatment. Homeowner Control: A thorough inspection of materials and having
clothing dry cleaned. Inspect piano felts, mohair, wool, stuffed animals and trunks packed with clothing. Discard infested items, if damaged beyond use. Freezing or cold storage is useful and of course
vacuuming anywhere these pest are found. |
